A walk-off single led the Maples past Walled Lake Central 2-1 in 8 innings on Saturday. The game was tied at one with the Maples batting in the extra frame when Scott Simon singled on a 0-1 count, scoring the winning one run. The pitching was strong on both sides. Max Schumaker struck out nine, while Walled Lake Central pitchers sat down five. Walled Lake Central evened things up at one in the top of the sixth inning. An error scored one run for Walled Lake.
Schumaker was credited with the victory, he went the distance allowing four hits and one run while striking out nine and walking one. The Maples
tallied eight hits in the game. Schumaker, Erik Sparschu, and Simon each racked up multiple hits.

Scott Simon didn’t allow a single run as the Maples defeated Bloomfield Hills 4-0 on Thursday. Simon threw a complete game and allowed just three hits. The Maples got things started in the first inning and scored the winning run on a double by Zach Ziegler scoring Max Schumaker. The Maples tallied 11 hits on the day. Ziegler, Simon, and Alex Oancea each collected multiple hits and Simon and Ziegler lead the team with three hits each.

The Maples host a split DH on Saturday against Walled Lake Central (9 AM) and Walled Lake Northern (11:30 AM)

Game 1: Groves 7 – Maples 2

Despite out hitting the Falcons eight to six, the Maples lost 7-2. Ryan Laub took the win for Groves. He went six innings, allowing seven hits and one run while striking out five. Tyler Newitt threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Justin Miller took the loss. He went five and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs on six hits and striking out three. Alex Oancea went deep in the seventh inning. Oancea and Alex Maxwell had multiple hits for the Maples.
Groves totaled six hits in the game. George Cutler and Nicholas Ringler each had multiple hits for Birmingham Groves.

Game 2: Groves 5 – Maples 4

The Maples lost the lead late in a 5-4 defeat to Groves. The game was tied at four in the bottom of the sixth when George Cutler hit a solo homer.
The Maples lost despite out-hitting eleven to six. The Maples got on the board in the first inning when Zach Ziegler grounded out, scoring one run.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Birmingham Groves tied things up at four when Motley homered on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.
The Maples put up three runs in the third inning, with Alex Oancea, Justin Miller, and Alex Maxwell, all knocking in runs in the inning.
Matt Bachand took the win for Groves. He surrendered four runs on eleven hits over six and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking one. Schmidt threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen. Nick King took the loss for the Maples; he went six innings, allowing five runs on six hits and striking out three.

The Maples fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 7-3 loss to Clarkston on Tuesday. Max Schumaker took the loss, he surrendered four runs on six hits over six innings, striking out two. Scott Simon went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Maples in hits.

In the second game, the Maples prevailed 2-1 and its pitchers allowed just six hits to Clarkston. The Maples got things started in the first inning when Alex Oancea doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. Jack Sheldon earned the victory; he lasted six innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out seven. Johnny Vecchio threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Vecchio recorded the last three outs to earn the save. Max Schumaker had three hits in three at bats. The Maples were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error.

The Maples watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in an 8-1 loss in Game 1 to Lake Orion on Saturday. Justin Miller took the loss for the Maples. He went five innings, allowing six runs on four hits and striking out six. Scott Simon and Miller each collected one hit to lead Seaholm Maples Varsity.

In the nightcap, the Maples fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 2-1 loss to Lake Orion. The pitching was strong on both sides. Lake Orion pitchers struck out six, while the Maples sat down four. The Maples evened things up at one in the bottom of the first inning. Johnny Vecchio hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring one run. Nick King took the loss, he surrendered two runs on six hits over seven innings, striking out four and walking one. Lucas Simmons went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Maples in hits.
