Maples Lose Both to Rival Groves

Game 1: Groves 7 – Maples 2

Despite out hitting the Falcons eight to six, the Maples lost 7-2. Ryan Laub took the win for Groves. He went six innings, allowing seven hits and one run while striking out five. Tyler Newitt threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Justin Miller took the loss. He went five and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs on six hits and striking out three. Alex Oancea went deep in the seventh inning. Oancea and Alex Maxwell had multiple hits for the Maples.
Groves totaled six hits in the game. George Cutler and Nicholas Ringler each had multiple hits for Birmingham Groves.

Game 2: Groves 5 – Maples 4

The Maples lost the lead late in a 5-4 defeat to Groves. The game was tied at four in the bottom of the sixth when George Cutler hit a solo homer.
The Maples lost despite out-hitting eleven to six. The Maples got on the board in the first inning when Zach Ziegler grounded out, scoring one run.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Birmingham Groves tied things up at four when Motley homered on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.
The Maples put up three runs in the third inning, with Alex Oancea, Justin Miller, and Alex Maxwell, all knocking in runs in the inning.
Matt Bachand took the win for Groves. He surrendered four runs on eleven hits over six and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking one. Schmidt threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen. Nick King took the loss for the Maples; he went six innings, allowing five runs on six hits and striking out three.
