The Maples [6-4 (3-1 OAA-White)] snagged a late lead and defeated NFHU 11-5 on Wednesday. The game was tied at 5 with the Maples batting in the top of the 6th when Lucas Simmons doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. The Maples earned the victory despite allowing NFHU to score 4 runs in the 2nd. The Maples put up 4 runs in the 7th. The rally was led by singles by Simmons and Gray Kinnie and a double by Alex Maxwell.

Scott Simon was the winning pitcher for the Maples. He went 6 innings, allowing 7 hits and 5 unearned runs while striking out five. Nick King threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

The Maples totaled 15 hits in the game. Kinnie, Alex Oancea, Jack Morad, Zach Ziegler, Simmons, and Nick Contis each racked up multiple hits for the Maples. Kinnie led the Maples with 3 hits in 4 at bats. The Maples Varsity stole 7 bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Kinnie led the way with 3.

Game 1: Maples Grab Lead in 5th Inning to defeat N Farmington Harrison United (NFHU)

The Maples stole the lead late and defeated NFHU 3-2 on Monday. The game was tied at 2 with the Maples batting in the bottom of the 5th when Max Schumaker grounded out, scoring one run. The pitching was strong on both sides. Justin Miller was the winning pitcher for the Maples . He surrendered 2 runs on 2 hits over 6 innings, striking out 2. Nick King threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. King recorded the last three outs to earn the save for the Maples. Lucas Simmons, Zach Ziegler, and Alex Oancea each collected one hit to lead the Maples.

Game 2: Maples Claim Lead in 6th to Defeat NFHU

The Maples snatched the lead late in the game in a 4-3 victory over NFHU . The game was tied at 3 with the Maples batting in the bottom of the 6th when Alex Maxwell’s sac fly scored 1 for the Maples. In the first inning, NFHU got their offense started and scored 2. The Maples knotted the game up at 3 in the bottom of the 4th inning, when Johnny Vecchio singled on a 3-1 count, scoring 1. Nick King was the winning pitcher for Maples. He went 1.1 innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits and walking zero. Max Schumaker started the game for the Maples. He allowed 6 hits and 3 runs over 5.2 innings, striking out 8. Zach Ziegler led the Maples with 2 hits in 3 ABs.

The Maples close out the series against NFHU at N Farmington HS with a single game at 4:30 PM on Wednesday, April 25th.

Farmington Hills, MI: Steve Oshinsky’s JV Maples continued their winning ways with a doubleheader sweep of N Farmington Harrison United yesterday evening: 10-0 and 2-1 and moving to an 8-1 record for the season. The JV team next plays on Wednesday when the host N Farmington Harrison United in the final game of the series.

The Varsity Maples were on their way to a DH sweep until a walk off single scored 2 for Avondale in the bottom of the 7th in Game 2 to end the game.

In Game 1, Senior Scott Simon earned the W going the distance on the hill 10-2. Senior Zach Ziegler was 5-5 n the game.

In the nightcap, the 7th inning walk off gave Avondale the win 6-5. Scotty Clippert started the game, pitched 5 innings and had no decision. Junior Jack Sheldon was charged with the loss pitching the 6th and 7th innings for the Maples.

The Maples return to action on Monday, April 23rd when they host a doubleheader against N Farmington @ Maple Park at 4 PM.

The JV Maples imposed their will against the JV Avondale Yellow Jackets in a doubleheader in Auburn Hills today, winning both games with scores of 15 -2 and 13 – 1.
